New Delhi, The Delhi High Court has set aside an order staying the registration of an FIR against Abhijit Iyer Mitra for allegedly making abusive remarks against women journalists. The court sent the issue back to the sessions court for fresh consideration.

Justice Girish Kathpalia noted that the stay order was passed without any reasons and remarked, 'This kind of stay does not convince.'

The court asked the sessions court to consider Mitra's stay application afresh and pass a reasoned order within four weeks.

The sessions court had stayed the registration of FIR till May 28 on Mitra's revision petition.

Mitra has been accused of posting derogatory tweets against women journalists, including Newslaundry editorial director Manisha Pande.

The magisterial court had directed the filing of an FIR against Mitra on Pande's plea, citing cognisable offences under BNS Sections 75 and 79.
