A devastating fire swept through the apartment of a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official, his wife, and their 10-year-old daughter in northwest Delhi, claiming their lives. The tragedy occurred at Metro Apartments, a residential complex for DMRC employees near Majlis Park Metro Station. According to police, the fire broke out on the fifth floor of the building at 2:39 am on Tuesday. Firefighters and police rushed to the scene, and six fire tenders battled the blaze for several hours to bring it under control. A firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit involving a room heater in the family's one-bedroom flat. The victims likely lost consciousness due to smoke inhalation before the flames spread. The deceased have been identified as Ajay Vimal (45), an Assistant Section Engineer with DMRC, his wife Neelam (38), and their daughter Jahnvi (10). Vimal had been a DMRC employee since 2006 and was residing in the staff quarters since 2016. Neighbours described the family as warm and helpful, saying that Vimal was a jolly man and his daughter was intelligent and well-mannered. Residents attempted to control the fire using the society's emergency equipment before fire tenders arrived. The police are conducting a thorough investigation, with multiple teams examining the scene, including the Forensic Science Laboratory. The DMRC has confirmed the deaths and expressed deep condolences, assuring full cooperation with the investigation. The family's elder brother, a police officer in Aligarh, and elder sister in Noida, are left to mourn their loss. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents and officials calling for a thorough probe to prevent any future incidents.
