Delhi has taken a significant step in its fight against air pollution by making two restrictions permanent as part of its Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-4. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced that vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) will no longer be able to obtain petrol. This decision aims to reduce vehicular emissions, which are a major contributor to Delhi's poor air quality. The second permanent restriction is the ban on non-BS6 vehicles entering the city from outside. Vehicles that do not meet the Bharat Stage VI (BS6) emission standards will be prohibited from entering Delhi until further notice. The permanent curbs were decided at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and will remain in place despite the current air quality levels. According to officials, these measures will serve as a long-term compliance mechanism to reduce vehicular emissions. Delhi's air quality has been a concern, with the city experiencing 'very poor' air quality for the second consecutive day. The average AQI reading on Saturday stood at 391. The Delhi government hopes that these permanent restrictions will help improve the air quality and make the city a healthier place to live.
