As the mercury dropped, rain lashed parts of Delhi, and a thick layer of smog enveloped several areas, according to the India Meteorological Department. The air quality in the city remained in the 'poor' to 'very poor' category, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reporting an air quality index (AQI) reading of 380 as of 10 am on Friday. This is significantly higher than the reading of 280 on Thursday. According to the air quality index classification, an AQI reading between 301 and 400 is considered 'very poor.' Several areas in the city, including Anand Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Jahangirpuri, Dwarka Sector 8, and Ashok Vihar, saw deteriorating air quality.
