Congress leader Digvijaya Singh sparked controversy after praising the organisational capacity of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in a recent social media post. However, he quickly clarified his statement, reiterating his opposition to the RSS ideology. Singh shared a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, highlighting the Sangh's grassroots efforts that led to their success in politics. He expressed admiration for the organisation's ability to mobilise its members, saying it was "very impressive." But in a swift U-turn, Singh clarified that he had never supported the RSS ideology, which he believes is detrimental to India's Constitution and laws. Singh's clarification came after the BJP used his initial remarks to criticise the Congress party. The Rajya Sabha MP expressed concerns about the RSS being an unregistered organisation that has gained immense power. He also acknowledged that the Congress party needs to improve its organisational capacity, saying there is "room for improvement" in converting its movement into votes. Singh's remarks were seen as an indirect jibe at the Congress party, which he believes needs reforms, particularly in its functioning. He called for pragmatic decentralised functioning and praised Rahul Gandhi's efforts in addressing socio-economic issues.
