A tragic incident unfolded in Maharashtra's Palghar district, where a 35-year-old woman, Kalpana Soni, was brutally beaten to death by her husband and sister-in-law over a dowry dispute. The incident occurred in the MB Estate area of Virar West on Saturday, leaving behind a seven-year-old daughter. According to police, Kalpana had been subjected to physical and mental harassment by her in-laws since her marriage in 2015. The victim, who had grown tired of the abuse, demanded the return of her dowry and threatened to leave the house. However, her husband Mahesh and sister-in-law Deepali allegedly responded with violence, assaulting Kalpana on the head with a sharp weapon. Despite the accused initially claiming that Kalpana had died from a fall in the washroom, doctors confirmed that she had suffered severe beatings. Neighbours had rushed Kalpana to a hospital, where she was declared dead. Based on a complaint filed by Kalpana's maternal uncle, police have registered a case of murder against Mahesh and Deepali. The duo has been arrested and remanded to police custody for seven days. An investigation is underway to unravel the details of this heinous crime.
