Tragedy struck a local cricket match in Mizoram on Thursday when 38-year-old K Lalremruata, a former state Ranji Trophy cricketer, collapsed and passed away. The incident occurred during a Khaled Memorial 2nd Division Screening Tournament match between Venghnuai Raiders Cricket Club and Chawnpui ILMOV CC at the Suaka Cricket Ground. Lalremruata, a wicketkeeper, was rushed to the hospital after suffering a stroke but could not be revived. Born in Maubawk, near Aizawl, he had a notable cricketing career, representing Mizoram twice in the Ranji Trophy and seven times in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His last competitive match was in 2022 against Nagaland. The Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM) has described his death as a 'major loss to the state’s cricketing community', while Mizoram's sports minister and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have also expressed their condolences. Beyond his playing career, Lalremruata was involved in cricket administration and contributed to the development of the game in Mizoram at the grassroots level. As a mark of respect, several matches scheduled for Thursday in Mizoram were cancelled, and revised schedules are expected to be announced later.
