A second woman has come forward with a rape complaint against suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is currently absconding. The 23-year-old woman, from Bengaluru, alleged that Mamkootathil raped her at a homestay in Pathanamthitta in 2023 after promising to marry her. According to the complaint, Mamkootathil initially approached the woman through Instagram, expressing his desire to marry her with her family's consent. However, when they met at a homestay, he ignored her objections and proceeded to sexually assault her, causing 'several cuts and injuries.' The woman claimed that Mamkootathil forced her into a brutal attack, resulting in a severe panic attack, and then coldly stated he had no intention of marrying her. This fresh complaint comes days after Mamkootathil was booked for raping a woman and forcing her to abort her pregnancy. Audio clips had surfaced earlier, in which the MLA is heard telling the woman to 'stop being dramatic' about her pregnancy. The MLA, who was suspended from the Congress primary party membership in August, is currently absconding. The Congress state leadership has forwarded the complaint to the special investigation team probing the rape case against the MLA. The woman has requested the leadership to prevent Mamkootathil from holding any role involving public engagement, especially with women and children. An anticipatory bail petition filed by the MLA is set to be heard in court on Wednesday.
