The Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) has relaxed its 'Wine and Dine' policy to attract global investors and businesses. The revised rules now permit liquor consumption in designated areas, including hotel terraces, lawns, and poolside zones, within the 880-acre smart city. The move aims to strengthen GIFT City's position as a global financial and IT hub, supporting a business ecosystem that caters to international investors, technical experts, and multinational companies. The revised policy also simplifies the process for domestic and foreign visitors to obtain temporary permits for official business, with the city's Managing Director empowered to issue group permits for large events. However, it's essential to note that the revised policy does not affect Gujarat's strict prohibition laws. The state's existing laws, as per the Gujarat Prohibition (Amended) Act, 2017, remain unchanged, with severe penalties for liquor-related offenses. The notification clarifies that the relaxed rules only apply to designated areas within GIFT City and are limited to officials, employees, and visiting business delegates. Foreign nationals and non-resident Gujaratis can also consume liquor in these areas. The revised policy is part of efforts to develop a globally competitive business environment, officials said, while maintaining the state's strict prohibition laws.
