A mysterious outbreak in Greater Noida's Delta 1 sector has left several residents sick after consuming contaminated tap water. According to officials, at least six to seven families have reported symptoms such as vomiting, fever, and loose motion after using tap water on Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents and local officials have pointed to sewage overflow and leaky pipelines as possible causes of the contamination. Rishipal Bhati, a resident and former president of the local residents' welfare association, said that similar complaints had been made earlier in other blocks of the sector. The incident has raised concerns about water safety in the region, particularly in the wake of recent reports from Indore and Gandhinagar, where contaminated water was linked to illness and deaths. In response, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has ordered random water testing across the city and asked builders and apartment owners' associations to regularly clean water reservoirs and submit test results. As a precautionary measure, the health department has organized a free medical camp in Delta 1, where 23 people were examined, and seven patients were treated for vomiting and diarrhoea. GNIDA officials have also promised to address the issue promptly and have identified a supply connection issue and a leak in the area, which were fixed immediately. The incident has sparked calls for better water management in the region, with residents and officials emphasizing the need for regular testing and maintenance of water supply systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
