The Gujarat government has announced plans to rebuild the severely damaged hostel complex of B J Medical College, which was hit by last year's Air India plane crash.

The new facility, valued at ₹105 crore, will be an ultra-modern structure with studio apartments, a super-specialty hostel block, and other amenities.

The Tata Group, which owns Air India, has agreed to pay ₹53.12 crore to the state government for the damage caused.

The new hostel, proposed as the 'Atulyam 1 to 7' complex, will accommodate 236 doctors and feature separate areas for unmarried students.

The construction of the new hostel is expected to begin soon, with a budgetary provision of ₹34.65 crore already made for the financial year 2026-27.
