Rinku Singh Rahi, a 2022-batch IAS officer, resigned alleging honest officials are given a unique punishment: paid but no posting or meaningful work.

He was kept in an 'attached' role, receiving a salary but not allowed to work for the public, as per an earlier report.

Rahi called his resignation a moral choice, stating taking a salary without doing work is also a form of corruption.

He was posted as the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Puwayan in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur on July 28, 2025, but was removed within 36 hours after a video of him doing sit-ups went viral.

He was attached to the UP Revenue Board after the incident and had earlier held his ears and done five sit-ups in front of lawyers over poor sanitation.

Rahi, a PCS officer before joining the IAS, exposed corruption in scholarship and pension schemes and survived a 2009 attack that left him disfigured.
