Atanu Chakraborty's sudden resignation as HDFC Bank's part-time chairman has sent shockwaves through the Indian financial sector. The retired IAS officer cited a breakdown in alignment between internal practices and personal ethics as the reason for his departure.
Chakraborty, a former bureaucrat of the Gujarat cadre, has had a distinguished career spanning multiple top positions, including CEO of GSPC Group of companies, Chairman of National Infrastructure and Investment Fund, and Secretary, DIPAM.
Following his resignation, RBI named HDFC's CEO Keki Mistry as the interim chairman, assuring governance stability and business continuity.
Chakraborty holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and has completed a post-graduate diploma in business finance and an MBA from the University of Hull in the UK.
