IFS Officer P Kumaran Set to Lead India's UK Mission

P Kumaran, a 1992-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Thursday.

Currently serving as Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Kumaran brings significant diplomatic experience, having previously served as India’s ambassador to Singapore and Qatar.

With a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication from IIT Madras, Kumaran is a career diplomat with extensive experience across regions and roles.

He is married to Ritu Kumaran and the couple has two sons, according to the foreign ministry's official website.

Kumaran's diplomatic career spans multiple postings, including third secretary at the Indian Embassy in Cairo, second secretary in Tripoli, and first secretary in Brussels.

He has also served as deputy secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, regional passport officer in Bengaluru, counsellor in Islamabad and Washington, and deputy high commissioner in Colombo.

Before taking up his current role as Secretary (East), Kumaran served as joint secretary in the Consular, Passport and Visa Division and held ambassadorial assignments in Doha and Singapore.
