A fresh western disturbance is expected to trigger rain and storms across northwest India and the Western Himalayan region from March 18, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam on Monday and Tuesday, while heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh till Tuesday and Mizoram on Monday.
Maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 3–5°C over northwest India during the next two days, followed by a gradual increase of 3–5°C during the subsequent three days.
The IMD has recommended using hail nets or hail caps in fruit orchards and vegetable crops to protect them from mechanical damage in several states.
Isolated thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds is also likely over east and adjoining central India during March 16–19, with peak intensity expected on Monday.
