The Indian government has doubled the supply of 5kg LPG cylinders for migrant labourers to ensure they have adequate cooking fuel.

The move follows concerns over a potential mass exodus of migrant workers due to shortages of 5kg free trade LPG cylinders in several industrial clusters.

According to officials, the daily quantity of 5kg FTL cylinders available for disbursal to migrant labourers has been doubled based on average daily supply.

State-run oil marketing companies will place 5kg FTL cylinders at the disposal of state food and civil supplies departments for distribution to migrant labourers.

Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma said supplies of petrol, diesel, piped natural gas, and LPG remain stable, with no dry-out reported.

Online booking of LPG refills is around 96%, and OTP-based delivery is approximately 90%, helping curb diversion into the black market.

Since March 14, approximately 45.5 lakh 19kg cylinders have been sold, amounting to about 86,400 metric tonnes.
