New Delhi, India and Italy have agreed to develop a defence industrial framework for co-producing military hardware, amid an evolving security landscape.

The decision was reached during talks between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto in New Delhi.

The two sides unveiled a bilateral military cooperation plan 2026-27, covering military engagements between their armed forces.

Singh said the talks covered regional and global issues, including the West Asia crisis, and ways to develop defence industrial cooperation under India's Atmanirbhar Bharat programme and Italy's defence initiative.

The defence ministry said the India-Italy strategic partnership is based on shared values of peace, stability, freedom, and mutual respect.

The two nations also discussed boosting cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on interoperability and technology collaboration.
