Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has urged the government to provide assurances to the public over the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shortage crisis in India.

He called for a discussion on the issue in the Parliament, highlighting the long lines for LPG cylinders and the impact on restaurants and other essential services.

The LPG shortage has hit many parts of the country, with restaurants in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal switching to induction cooking and a historic temple in Mangaluru turning to traditional firewood for cooking.

The Centre has assured that domestic LPG production has increased by 25 percent and is being directed towards household consumers, with priority given to essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
