The Union home ministry has rejected a request to allow a foreign national to hold the post of chief executive of the upcoming Noida airport, affecting the Jewar airport project.
The decision, which was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), was revealed by multiple officials aware of the matter.
The Noida International Airport, located at Jewar in Greater Noida, some 60km from Noida, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28.
The airport's CEO, Christoph Schnellmann, is a Swiss national, and the MHA's decision implies that the airport may have to replace the CEO in the worst-case scenario.
The denial of amendments to the rules leaves the airport with few options, and the decision is seen as a setback for the project, which has already been delayed.
