Census 2027, the world's largest statistical exercise, officially kicked off on Wednesday as President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi exercised the option of self-enumeration.

The first phase of the exercise, which involves house listing and housing operations, has commenced in eight states and Union territories.

Around 55,000 households availed the digital self-enumeration facility on the first day, with 1,000 people initiating the process in Delhi's NDMC and Cantonment Board areas.

The self-enumeration phase occurs during a 15-day window preceding the start of the house-listing operation, which will begin on April 16 and continue until May 15.

Respondents can log in to se.census.gov.in and generate a unique Self-Enumeration ID to participate in the process.
