Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has formed a Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee to prepare a roadmap for strengthening judicial infrastructure and creating a unified ecosystem for courts across India.

The move is significant as concerns over pendency, inadequate staffing, and lack of basic facilities continue to dominate discussions around judicial reforms.

The committee, chaired by Justice Aravind Kumar, has been tasked with preparing a report on the infrastructural requirements of the Indian judiciary, with a focus on securing governmental support and adequate financial allocation.

The report will be submitted to the CJI, who will then take up the matter with the Union government and state governments.

The committee's mandate extends beyond physical infrastructure, identifying constraints faced by stakeholders in the justice delivery system and recommending facilities for judges, lawyers, litigants, court staff, and visitors.

The initiative comes amid increasing concern within the judiciary over the mismatch between judicial workload and financial support available for courts.
