India was the fifth-biggest military spender in the world in 2025, accounting for 3.2% of the global military expenditure last year, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri).
The country's military spending stood at $92.1 billion last year, an 8.9% increase over the previous year, the report said.
India's neighbours, China and Pakistan, also increased their military spending, with China's spending rising by 7.4% to $336 billion and Pakistan's spending increasing by 11% to $11.9 billion.
The top three military spenders—the USA, China and Russia—spent a combined $1,480 billion, or 51% of the global total, the report said.
Global military expenditure increased to $2,887 billion in 2025, with the main contributor being a 14% rise in Europe to $864 billion.
