The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has hit back at US President Donald Trump's recent comments calling India a 'hellhole', describing them as 'uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste'. The remarks were made in a repost of comments from a right-wing commentator who argued against US birthright citizenship.

The MEA statement said that the comments do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which is based on mutual respect and shared interests.

The comments in question were made by Michael Savage, a conservative political talk show host who argued that people from countries like India and China are coming to the US and becoming citizens, which he claimed is a problem.

Trump later clarified his comments, saying that India is a 'great country' and that he has a 'very good friend' at the top.

The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, declined to directly respond to the comments, saying only that they have 'seen some reports'. The US Embassy in New Delhi also issued a statement clarifying Trump's comments.
