Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched two critical databases to aid law enforcement agencies in their fight against organised crime and terrorism in India. The Organised Crime Network Database and the Weapons Database for lost, looted, and recovered arms are now hosted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). These databases are expected to play a crucial role in the government's zero-terror policy. According to Shah, the databases will enable law enforcement agencies to share information and track the links between organised crime networks and terrorist organisations. Speaking at the Anti-Terrorism Conference-2025, Shah highlighted the dangers of organised crime, saying that these networks initially operate for ransom and extortion but eventually form links with terrorist groups. He urged states to eliminate organised crime within their jurisdictions using the new databases. The home minister also stressed the importance of a unified national-level framework for technology and data sharing among law enforcement agencies. He expects the director generals of police to implement the database framework effectively. India is set to launch a comprehensive "360-degree assault on organised crime" in the coming days, with Shah announcing a new plan to tackle this menace. The government aims to enhance coordination, cooperation, and communication among law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and organised crime more effectively.
