India-US Trade Deal Hits a Roadblock: Congress Slams US Approach as 'Imbecile'

The Congress party has taken a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US government after US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick revealed that India missed out on a trade deal with the US due to a lack of direct engagement at the leadership level. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh shared a video on social media, poking fun at PM Modi with a Bollywood-style taunt: "Hug hug na raha, post post na raha" (hugging and posting but not taking action). He also added, "Kya se kya ho gaya, bewafa teri dosti mein" (what has become of your friendship, traitor). Congress MP Manish Tewari was more scathing, calling the US approach "imbecile". He said, "India and the US share a deep strategic relationship, not limited to the Asia-Pacific region. It's absurd to suggest that deals succeed or fail based on who calls whom.
