Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed India's support for de-escalation and restoration of peace in West Asia, emphasizing the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure for the global community.
Modi made the statement after a phone call with US President Donald Trump, who discussed the situation in the Gulf region amid growing concerns about food and fuel security.
India has been actively engaged in efforts to end the hostilities, with Modi having phone calls with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the leadership of the six GCC member states, as well as a conversation with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has also met with envoys of the GCC countries and Iranian ambassador Mohammad Fathali, and spoken to his Iranian and American counterparts.
The Indian side has ruled out any possibility of getting involved in the situation in West Asia, with the Indian Navy's Operation Sankalp focused on ensuring the security of Indian-flagged merchant vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
