The United Democratic Front's (UDF) sweeping win in Kerala's Assembly elections was largely driven by the Indian Union Muslim League's (IUML) strong performance, particularly in Malappuram and the Malabar region.
The IUML, the second-largest partner in the UDF after the Congress, secured its highest-ever tally of 22 seats out of 27 contested.
The party swept all 12 seats in Malappuram, with its candidate PK Kunhalikutty recording the highest victory margin in the state's history, winning by 85,327 votes.
Fathima Thahiliya became the first woman elected as an MLA on an IUML ticket, while other prominent leaders, including PK Basheer, PK Firos, KM Shaji, and TV Ibrahim, also won from their respective constituencies.
In contrast, the Jose K Mani-led Kerala Congress (M) suffered a complete rout, with all 12 of its candidates, including Mani himself, being defeated.
