In a dramatic turn of events, Byrathi Basavaraju, the MLA from Krishnarajapuram and a senior BJP leader, has gone into hiding. This comes a day after the Karnataka High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in connection with the murder of Shivaprakash alias Biklu Shiva on July 15. The police have confirmed that Basavaraju's last known location was in Pune, Maharashtra, and his mobile phone has been switched off since the court's verdict. The MLA's disappearance coincided with the end of the winter assembly session in Belagavi on Friday. Investigating officers have revealed that Basavaraju's mobile phone records show that he was in contact with the accused, contradicting his earlier claims. The police are now searching for the MLA and have conducted searches at his Belagavi address. The case relates to the murder of Shivaprakash, a repeat offender who was hacked to death in Bengaluru. Basavaraju was named as the fifth accused in the FIR, following allegations of conspiracy and involvement in the crime. The high court's rejection of his bail plea has raised concerns that the MLA may be hiding to avoid arrest. The police are now urging Basavaraju to surrender and cooperate with the investigation. The case is being closely monitored, and the police are working to track down the MLA and bring him to justice.
