A gruesome incident unfolded in Tikra village, Kanpur, on Wednesday night, where a 45-year-old man, Pappu, was brutally attacked by his wife, Veerangana, with an axe. The couple had consumed alcohol together before the argument turned violent. Pappu, who worked at a tile and stone laying firm, was taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early Thursday morning. According to the police, the couple had been drinking together when a heated argument broke out, lasting nearly two hours. During this time, Veerangana allegedly picked up an axe and attacked Pappu multiple times, leaving him with over 10 serious injury marks on his head. The police investigation suggests that the assault was carried out with intent to kill. After the attack, Veerangana allegedly cleaned the bloodstains from the floor and misled her in-laws about the cause of Pappu's injuries. The child, who was with Veerangana at the time of the incident, was found hiding in a room by the police before she escaped. The victim's mother, Bitola Devi, alleged that Veerangana had been quarrelling with her son a few months after their marriage and frequently fought with him. The family was prevented from rushing Pappu to the hospital by Veerangana, who became violent when they tried to intervene. The police are probing the incident and have not yet received a written complaint from the family. The post-mortem findings have revealed the severity of the injuries, with blunt objects such as a rolling pin and a grinding stone also allegedly used in the attack. The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and the importance of seeking help in such situations. The police are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist in the investigation.
