The Karnataka High Court has stayed criminal proceedings against a 21-year-old engineering student accused of raping his classmate on false promises of marriage. The court directed him to pay ₹75,000 per month to support the complainant and their 10-month-old child.

Justice M Nagaprasanna stated that while the case appeared to involve a consensual physical relationship, the court took a different approach due to the complainant's inability to support herself or her child.

The court ordered the accused to either pay the amount himself or get his parents to do so.
