Siddaramaiah resigned as Karnataka chief minister on Thursday, bringing an end to his three-year tenure. He submitted his resignation to the Governor's special secretary, who stated that only the Governor can accept the resignation upon his return.

Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah expressed gratitude to the Congress leadership for their support and affection, while also thanking his colleagues who worked with him during his tenures as chief minister.

He also slammed the opposition, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for spreading rumors about him and his government's ability to fulfill promises.

Siddaramaiah is expected to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday evening, where he may reveal more about his future plans.

The speculation over a leadership change has intensified, with many speculating that DK Shivakumar may eventually assume the role of chief minister.
