The Congress-led United Democratic Front returned to power in Kerala on May 4 after a decade of Left rule. However, the party has yet to pick a chief ministerial candidate for the state.

Several leaders of the party are in the national capital to discuss and pick the new leadership of Kerala. Former Congress Kerala chiefs K Muraleedharan and VM Sudheeran confirmed they would be in Delhi for discussions on the invitation of the high command.

Muraleedharan said the decision on who would become Kerala's chief minister is expected within the next 48 hours, which means the Congress might announce their pick for the top post by Wednesday.

Names such as Congress' senior leader and MP KC Venugopal, VD Satheesan, and Ramesh Chennithala have popped up as potential candidates for the post of chief minister.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized Congress over the delay, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi claiming the party remains embroiled in internal tussle instead of governing the state.
