Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan has announced the scrapping of the proposed Silverline semi-high speed rail project. The 530-km project aimed to reduce travel time between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod to four hours.
The Congress-led government cited the previous administration's abandonment of the project, land acquisition issues, and the central government's lack of approval as reasons for its withdrawal.
The government will revoke notifications for land acquisition and recommend the withdrawal of criminal cases against those who opposed the project.
Chief Minister Satheesan emphasized the need for a high-speed rail corridor to be financially and environmentally sound for the state.
The government has also extended the validity of exam rank listings for the Public Service Commission and plans to implement promises made in the UDF manifesto within the first 100 days.
