In a disturbing incident reported from northern Kerala, a 5-year-old girl is fighting for her safety and dignity after her stepmother allegedly used a hot spatula to punish her for wetting the bed. The incident took place last week in the Kanjikode area, but it came to light when the girl's Anganwadi teacher noticed her struggling to sit comfortably during class sessions, prompting her to alert authorities. The police swiftly took action and apprehended the suspect, a woman from Bihar, on Thursday. She has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days to allow for further investigation. The authorities have registered a case against her under key sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act, which specifically protect minors from abuse. The young victim, whose father is from Nepal and works at a nearby hotel, has been placed under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, which is ensuring her medical care, safety, and emotional support.
