The Kerala High Court has extended protection from arrest to Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil until January 21. This decision came after the court allowed a survivor's impleading petition in a rape and abortion case. Mamkootathil faces charges of rape, causing a miscarriage, and other crimes. The MLA, who was expelled from the Congress last year due to multiple complaints of rape, claims his relationship with the complainant was consensual. The case is set for a detailed hearing on January 21, after which the court will decide on his request for anticipatory bail. The MLA's protection from arrest was initially granted by the High Court, following the rejection of his bail petition by the Principal and Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram.
