In a closely contested Chapra constituency, Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav is trailing behind BJP candidate Chhoti Kumari in the early trends of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. According to the Election Commission, Khesari Lal Yadav is currently 3085 votes behind Chhoti Kumari after the fourth round of counting. The RJD candidate, who joined the party in October, is a well-known Bhojpuri film star and playback singer. His entry into politics aims to tap into his popularity among youth in Bihar and strengthen the Mahagathbandhan's base in Saran district. Chhoti Kumari, fielded by the BJP, is expected to benefit from fresh voter sentiment in a constituency that has been a BJP stronghold since 2010. However, a rebel candidate, Rakhi Gupta, is posing a challenge by potentially dividing the BJP's vote share. The Chapra constituency has a complex mix of Rajput, Yadav, Muslim, and OBC groups, making it a key battleground in the Bihar elections. The contest is expected to be multi-cornered, with Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party also fielding a candidate, Jai Prakash Singh, a former IPS officer. The first phase of the Bihar assembly election took place on November 6, followed by the second on November 11. The Election Commission is currently counting the votes, and the results are expected to provide insights into the strength of the NDA and Mahagathbandhan alliances in the state.
