Ladakh is preparing its first master plan for comprehensive development, announced Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The plan, in collaboration with the Delhi-based School of Planning and Architecture, will promote tourism while preserving local architecture, improve transportation, and control haphazard construction.
The master plan will assess demographic, economic, environmental, and transport parameters at a city and regional level, incorporating modern tools like AI and GIS to monitor climate change and its impacts.
Lieutenant Governor Saxena aims to promote tourism in Ladakh while benefiting local communities, positioning it as a leading destination for adventure, spiritual, and wellness tourism. He has also set a target to increase the green cover from 0.4% to 5% in two years, with 7,000 saplings planted in the last 40-50 days.
The administration is developing two 'Valley of Flowers' zones, where a variety of flowers can withstand harsh weather conditions, and the 'Him Sarovar' project will construct 50 ponds to harvest glacial melt, addressing irrigation challenges and generating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
