To facilitate voting in the upcoming Maharashtra civic polls, the State Election Commission has declared January 15 a public holiday. This decision applies to government and semi-government offices, corporations, and banks within the jurisdiction of the 29 municipal corporations where polling will take place. The commission has completed preparations for the polls, including the readiness of electronic voting machines and the training of polling and counting personnel. State election commissioner Dinesh Waghmare has warned that strict action will be taken against those who fail to attend the required training. To ensure a smooth voting process, officials have been instructed to prioritize senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable sections of voters. Polling stations will be equipped with reliable electricity, clean drinking water, toilet facilities, and ramps to cater to the needs of all voters. The campaign period for the civic polls will conclude at 5:30 pm on January 13, after which no election-related advertisements will be published or broadcast. The polls are scheduled to take place in several cities across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, and Thane, among others.
