The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance has rolled out its manifesto for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, scheduled for January 15. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Fadnavis unveiled the document, highlighting the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingyas. Fadnavis claimed that the AI tool would be ready in six months and would be able to identify and deport 100% of illegal migrants. The alliance has also promised to expand the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) fleet from 5,000 to 10,000 buses, switch to electric vehicles, and introduce a 50% concession on fares for women travellers. However, the Congress has raised questions over Fadnavis's claims, challenging him to make the data public. "If the government has indeed identified the highest number of illegal immigrants, it should release the figures," said Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant. The civic elections will be held across 29 municipal corporations in the state, with a total of 1,700 candidates contesting the 227-wards. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls will be held on January 15, with the results expected to be declared on January 16. The state government has declared a holiday for the day of voting, and parties are finalising their plans and trading sharp allegations as they try to make the most of their last few days of campaigning. The Thackeray cousins, Raj and Uddhav, who reunited for the local elections after 20 years, held their first joint rally in Nashik on Friday and are set to hold another on Monday.
