Imphal, Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh has pledged to bolster the state's police force to maintain peace in the region, which has been plagued by ethnic violence for over three years.
The Chief Minister made the commitment while flagging off 477 new vehicles for the state police, emphasizing the importance of a strong police force in bringing peace to Manipur.
More than 260 people have lost their lives, and thousands have been left homeless in the violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
Singh appealed to the people to refrain from violent agitations, citing instances where youths had targeted security forces instead of pursuing peaceful rallies and engaging in talks.
The government has committed to providing maximum support to strengthen the police force, with the Chief Minister saying that the modernization of police is a significant step towards enhancing law enforcement and public service delivery across the state.
