After 25 days of mourning, the family of the two minors killed in the Tronglaobi bomb blast incident in Bishnupur, Manipur, have accepted their bodies. The two minors, a 5-year-old boy and his 5-month-old sister, were killed in a mortar attack on April 7 while sleeping with their mother. The incident also injured their mother.
The bodies of the minors had been lying in the Regional Institution of Medical Science (RIMS), Imphal, and were handed over to the family members on Saturday. A large number of people marched a procession from RIMS hospital to their birthplace, Tronglaobi, Bishnupur, before performing a funeral and burying the bodies at Lamthabung ground.
The government has assured a job in the Indian Reserved Battalion (IRB) or Manipur Rifles (MR) with equivalent rank for the father of the minors, who is currently serving in the Border Security Force (BSF), and mother, who is working as a nurse at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Guwahati.
The incident has reignited unrest in Manipur, with multiple torch rallies being demonstrated across five districts demanding justice for the deceased. The government had launched a military crackdown in the suspected area and handed over the case to the National Investigating Agency (NIA), which has arrested 5 suspects belonging to the banned underground outfit United Kuki National Army (UKNA).
