The Centre has appointed Manipur police chief Rajiv Singh as the Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer, served as the Director General of Manipur police for nearly three years and took charge as the police chief of Manipur on May 30, 2023, amidst the Meitei-Kuki clashes in the state.

His new appointment as Secretary(Security) will be in Delhi and under the Cabinet Secretariat, where he will coordinate the administrative functioning of the Special Protection Group(SPG) and monitor VIP security's administrative functioning.

The Manipur government is yet to announce the next police chief, with Ashutosh Sinha and Lupheng Kailun being the seniormost officers after Singh.

However, Singh's appointment may be delayed as the state is currently facing a crisis with fresh Naga-Kuki clashes and the alleged abduction of at least 14 Kuki-Zo and six Naga individuals.
