A shocking case of murder and brutality has come to light in Delhi, where a 48-year-old man was allegedly killed by his friends and dismembered before his body was thrown into the Yamuna river. The brutal attack, carried out on February 18, was reportedly a pre-planned act of revenge after the victim refused to hand over money to his killers. The prime accused, Happy alias Suraj (29), had befriended Anroop Gupta, who managed a canteen at Chhattisgarh Sadan in Delhi, about a year ago. Happy had become suspicious of Gupta's wealth, as he often wore gold jewelry and lived separately from his family. On the night of February 18, Happy invited Gupta to a party at his rented room in Matiala Extension, where he was allegedly tied up and assaulted with sticks by his associates. When Gupta refused to give them more money, the group beat him again and stabbed him to death. In a shocking act of brutality, Happy procured a big knife and cut the body into pieces, packing them in three plastic bags. The body parts were then transported in Gupta's SUV and disposed of in the Yamuna River near Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. Police were able to crack the case with the help of technical and manual intelligence, including CCTV footage from toll plazas and the area around the building in Matiala. Call detail records also helped police trace the bike rider who had dropped Gupta at the location. Four people, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the crime, while one accused remains on the run. Police are working to trace and arrest the remaining suspect, Neeraj, who is believed to be involved in the planning of the murder.
