Murmu Calls for Seamless Tax Collection, Pledges Support for 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' Vision

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of smooth and hassle-free tax collection, assuring that the Indian government will support the vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) by providing a stable, fair, and facilitative tax ecosystem. Addressing the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer trainees at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu encouraged them to create systems that are transparent, accountable, and technology-driven. She highlighted the significance of revenue collection in nation-building, stating that it funds critical infrastructure, education, health, and social welfare initiatives. Recalling the wisdom of Chanakya in the Arthashastra, the President likened tax collection to a honeybee's approach, collecting just the right amount of honey from a flower to ensure both parties can thrive. She praised the recent Goods and Services Tax reforms, introduced in September, as a landmark step towards reshaping India's taxation system. Murmu urged the IRS officers to strike a delicate balance between enforcement and facilitation, emphasizing the importance of integrity, fairness, and innovation in their work. She encouraged them to adopt data-driven decision-making, automation, and digital governance to make tax administration more efficient and citizen-friendly. The President also stressed the need for constant knowledge upgrades and adaptability to rapid changes in global trade, technology, and economics. She acknowledged the IRS officers' crucial role in realizing the vision of a developed India by 2047 and providing a stable tax ecosystem that encourages entrepreneurship, compliance, and investment.
