President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday addressed the Odisha Assembly, a moment that brought back nostalgic memories of her early days in politics. The former Odisha MLA, who has since become the President of India, expressed her gratitude towards the House for laying the foundation of her long and illustrious career. Murmu, who was elected to the Odisha Assembly in 2000 from the Rainrangpur constituency, highlighted the importance of the House in shaping her political journey. She recalled her days as a member of the Assembly, where she learned the art of speaking, behaving with people, and navigating different situations. The President's speech was filled with emotion as she remembered the blessings of the people and Lord Jagannath, who have been instrumental in her success. She noted that addressing the Odisha Assembly was a unique experience that reminded her of her past. Murmu urged the newly elected MLAs to maintain a balance between their personal and professional lives, saying that the people are watching and following their actions. She emphasized the importance of working for the poorest of the poor and meeting the aspirations and hopes of the people. The President also highlighted India's achievements in various fields, including economy, space science, technology, and artificial intelligence. She hailed the Odisha government for its initiatives, such as the 'Subhadra Yojana' and subsidy to paddy farmers. Murmu's address was met with a warm welcome from the Assembly, with Speaker Surama Padhy extending formal congratulations to the President. Leader of Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, described the day as a great pride for all members of the House. Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati praised the President's journey, saying it continues to inspire millions of people.
