Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has requested the Centre to provide alternative financial support to implement the VB-G RAM G Act, a new rural employment scheme that replaced MGNREGA. Naidu, who met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, also urged the Centre to grant statutory status to Amaravati as the state's capital. The new law, which guarantees 125 days of wage employment, has a revised Centre-State funding ratio of 60:40, placing an additional burden on Andhra Pradesh. Naidu's Telugu Desam Party is a key ally in the BJP-led NDA at the Centre, and the chief minister has acknowledged the Centre's support in helping Andhra Pradesh recover from financial stress. The two leaders are understood to have discussed Union Budget allocations for Andhra Pradesh, with Naidu emphasizing the need for policy certainty and investor confidence. The push for Amaravati's statutory status gained momentum after Naidu's return to power in June 2024. Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had proposed three capitals for the state, but the issue is currently before the Supreme Court for final adjudication. Naidu's meeting with Shah comes ahead of the Union Budget 2026, which is likely to be presented on February 1.
