National Shooting Coach Accused of Raping Minor Athlete: 'Career Threats and Hotel Room Assault'

A national-level shooting coach has been booked by the Haryana Police over allegations of sexual assault against a minor woman athlete. The incident allegedly took place on December 16 at a hotel in Faridabad, where the coach had asked the athlete to meet him to discuss her performance in a national-level competition. According to the FIR, the 18-year-old athlete was pressured to go to the coach's hotel room, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted. The coach, who is among the 13 national pistol coaches appointed by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), threatened to ruin her career and harm her family if she disclosed the incident. The athlete's family filed a police complaint after she narrated the ordeal to them. An investigation is underway, with the police seeking CCTV footage from the hotel and recording statements from witnesses. The accused has not been detained or issued a notice yet. The case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations. The sports federation concerned has not been informed of the incident yet, and the police are working to gather evidence and corroborate the allegations.
