BJP's Samrat Choudhary is set to take oath as Bihar's next chief minister, succeeding JD(U) boss Nitish Kumar. However, Nitish's son Nishant may not get a big post in the new government, at least for now.
JD(U) leaders have expressed guarded views on the possibility of Nishant taking a cabinet berth or even a deputy chief minister's post. However, sources have hinted that Nishant was not keen on the deputy chief minister's post and wanted to focus on strengthening the party instead.
Senior JD(U) leaders have chosen two 'experienced' names for the deputy CM posts in Bihar, making it unlikely for Nishant, a political rookie, to get the deputy CM-ship. The cabinet expansion will take place after the current assembly elections in four states and one union territory conclude.
JD(U) leaders have highlighted Nishant's increasing role in the organisational matters within the party, but his future role will be decided by party members.
