Bhubaneswar, Odisha's Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Centre to take immediate action to evacuate Odias stranded in West Asia due to the ongoing conflict. The disruption of air connectivity has left hundreds of people, including migrant workers, professionals, students, and tourists, facing uncertainty. According to reports, while the exact number of Odias stranded in Iran and other Gulf countries is unknown, non-resident Odias in Dubai, Doha, and Manama have informed their families about their safety, albeit in a tense situation. Patnaik, a five-time former Chief Minister, took to social media to express his concern, stating that the escalating conflict in the Middle East has put the lives of Odia people at risk. He requested the Government of India to take immediate steps to ensure the safe evacuation and return of all Odias caught in this crossfire. With flight services disrupted, hundreds of Indians, including Odias, are stranded in Dubai, Doha, and other key hub airports. The Indian government has successfully evacuated thousands of Indians from various parts of the world, including West Asia, in the past. Indigo operates flights between Bhubaneswar and Dubai thrice a week, but the latest flight was cancelled due to the conflict. The airport director in Bhubaneswar has stated that no decision has been taken regarding later flights to Dubai. The situation in West Asia turned grave following the attack on Iran by the United States and Israel, and the subsequent retaliation by Iran. The conflict has disrupted air connectivity, leaving many people stranded and uncertain about their future.
