Two school teachers in Odisha have died in two days, allegedly due to sunstroke, while engaged in Census work in separate incidents in Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts.
The temperature in the districts has reached over 37 degrees Celsius, with the incidents being the third of its kind in the state.
Rajkapur Hembram, a teacher of Baidyanath High School, died on Sunday evening after being taken to a hospital in Baripada, where he was undergoing treatment for discomfort after returning from census work.
Mamata Das, the headmistress of the school, said Rajkapur had complained of discomfort after returning from census duties and was assigned three villages for census enumeration.
Another teacher, Anurag Ekka, from Jarada Government High School, fell ill during Census duty on Saturday and died the same day.
Officials are looking into the matter, and the exact cause of their deaths will be known after getting reports from district authorities.
